Route 2 — South side (via Vesonne): The second route, from Vesonne on the south side, is a serious challenge — the kind of effort hungry climbers will love. The distance is similar (just over 8 km), but the profile reads like a three-course meal. As a starter, you’re hit with 10–11% right from the get-go, followed by a brief flatter section to catch your breath before halfway. Then comes the main course: the slope doesn’t let up — 11, 12, sometimes even 13% — all the way to the village of Montmin. Next is the “Trou Normand”: a solid kilometre of gentle false-flat to regroup before dessert — 1 km at 10–11% that delivers you to the Col de la Forclaz and its balcony view over the lake, visible from end to end. And for the thirstiest riders, there’s an extra espresso shot: one final kilometre above 12%, up to the paragliding launch. Add another 140 m of climbing to your ride… and do the maths yourself.
